Peru Shelter and WASH Piura

Plan International (Plan), in partnership with Accion Contra el Hambre (ACH), proposes a tailored suite of transitional shelter, WASH, and NFI provision to support the early self-help recovery of individuals and families in five districts of Piura province (La Arena, La Union, Tambogrande, Las Lomas, and Castilla). The project will seek to reach the most vulnerable – those unable to cope and recover on their own and less likely to be assisted by the government or other organizations. Recognizing that recovery will be a long-term process, the proposed project focuses on supporting the repair and cleaning of those flood-damaged houses that can be rehabilitated, providing rental support and assistance to hosts for those households sheltering with family or friends, and delivering assistance in developing transitional shelters for those whose houses are beyond repair and who lack appropriate, longer-term rental or hosted-shelter options. Complementing its Shelter interventions, the project will repair smalls systems of water and sanitation and promote hygiene at the community level. Project beneficiaries will be supported with NFIs and/or cash transfers to support re-establishment of households.
