Increasing Awareness of Homophobia and Transphobia on the African Continent

To increase awareness of homophobia and transphobia in Muslim contexts on the African continent though establishing safe spaces, training, leadership development and providing access to information.

Activities

1) Establish professional safe spaces, including a safe space for women and parents of queer children, in all the major provinces of South Africa. Training two facilitators per safe space on professional ethics and how to run safe spaces. 2) Continue to provide training in African countries on Islam, sexual orientation and gender identity (ISOGI), Basic Islam (BI) and Islamic Extremism (IE). 3) Provide ISOGI, BI and IE trainings as online courses to access a wider international audience. 4) Train 8 Imams from various African countries through the 3-month Training of Trainers program. 5) Continue to produce Information, Communication and Training (ICT) materials and create leadership training courses for the leadership sustainability of TIC (Tarbiyyah, Tazqiyyah and Imamat courses).
