Plan International (Plan) has designed the Nilinde program, meaning “Protect Me” in Swahili. Nilinde is guided by the belief that improving the welfare and protection of children affected by HIV/AIDS in a sustainable manner can only be done by (a) building the capacity of and empowering each affected household to provide for children under its care; and (b) strengthening the “supply response” of social service systems and structures at the county and community levels. Nilinde will foster a new generation of Kenyan children moving toward HIV/AIDS-free status, empowering them to pursue full and productive lives. By the end of Nilinde, communities, government, and other facets of society will be champions for the rights of girls and boys, and provide comprehensive, coordinated care to those children made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS.
