Mercy Corps Responds to Hunger Crisis in the Horn of Africa
The Horn of Africa is experiencing the worst drought and hunger crisis in the last 40 years. Across Somalia, Kenya, and Ethiopia, 18.4 million people are experiencing extreme hunger and 10 million children are suffering from acute malnourishment. In turn, families have been forced to leave their homes in search of food, water, and aid. Mercy Corps is providing immediate assistance in the Horn of Africa to alleviate hunger. In Somalia, Mercy Corps team members are distributing water and hygiene kits to prevent disease spread, particularly in displacement camps. Additionally, the organization is providing cash assistance to help families afford food, water, and other essential items such as medicine and clothing. In Ethiopia and Kenya, we are increasing access to water supply by rehabilitating boreholes and desilting water pans. Learn more
